The Donation Process
"When asked about their discomfort, over 90% of donors are quick to point out
that it was worth it to save a life, and they would do it again." *
How do I donate?  The first step is to attend our donor drive, go through a
medical questionnaire. Should you meet the medical requirements, a swab of
cheek cells is taken and entered into the registry.
Registry requirements:  1) You must be between the ages of 18-60. 2) be willing
to donate when a patient is in need and 3) meet the health guidelines.
If you match a patient, these  are the steps you'll follow:
1) Attend an information session  2) Receive a physical exam  3) Give marrow
through a surgical procedure (marrow donation), or give blood-forming cells
through apheresis (PBSC donation). 4) Recover from any side effects. 5) Receive
follow-up support.
If National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) calls you to inform you are a match,
YOU may turn out to be the only person who can SAVE that patient's life!

National Marrow Donor Program
It is estimated that a marrow or
blood cell transplant could benefit
more than 35,000 children and adults
with life-threatening diseases each
year.
The sad fact is, today only 2 out of 10
patients receive the marrow or cord
blood transplant they need to save
their lives.
Wacky Man Marrow Drive 2008
On any given day, more than
6,000 men, women and children
are searching the National
Marrow Donor Program (NMDP)
Registry for a life-saving donor.
