The Wacky Man Marrow Drive is about three amazing
people who have touched thousands of lives. Cliff is a
cancer survivor who is now a recruiter for NMDP.
Another is a busy 16 year old, Austin, with a rare
blood disease, MDS, who is fighting it with an
extraordinary badge of courage. The third is Sean
Higgins who lost his valiant battle to Leukemia in
1998.

The bone marrow drive's namesake, Wacky Man,
was created by the late cartoonist, Sean Higgins.
Wacky Man was a lot like his creator, hysterically
practical. The ideas hit the paper when Sean was
recovering from a rigorous battle with testicular
cancer; his first cancer. The mission of Wacky Man
was to spread the healing powers of laughter.

Surviving and Giving Back
Cliff Ackerman is the ever-so busy recruiter for the
National Marrow Donor Program. Where does he get
his passion? Cliff is a cancer survivor and has been
disease free thanks to a bone marrow transplant 8
years ago. "My mission is to give back to other
individuals in need, and my dream is that every
patient who needs a donor can find one".
